As a tribute to No. 6, Stan Musial, I’m posting a different historical photo of the greatest Cardinal each day for six consecutive days, Jan. 21-26, 2013. Musial, 92, died Jan. 19, 2013. Each photo is a copy I have collected from a library or archive.
This is the fourth of the six:
In the 1950s, the Cardinals and Yankees trained in St. Petersburg, Fla. Stan Musial and Mickey Mantle, right, were the glamour names. As a youth in Oklahoma, Mantle was a fan of Musial and the Cardinals. In his book “Stan Musial: The Man’s Own Story” Musial wrote of Mantle, “If he didn’t have recurring leg trouble, I’d have to rank Mickey with (Joe) DiMaggio and (Willie) Mays among the perfect players. I think he can hit a ball farther than any man I ever saw.”
Next: Stan Musial and his greatest hits.

Can we even begin to imagine what the world would be like if even 1% of us were to follows Stan’s example?
Most of us need to examin how we present ourselves in today’s society. God rest, Mr. Musial.
On that same note, what would Stan Musial say if he knew that the new I-70 bridge could possibly be named after him instead of the worker who lost his life working on that bridge?
At first I thought that would be awesome. But what if the name of the bridge were to go in memory of that young man & Busch Stadium were to be named, “Busch Stadium’s Stan Musial Ball Park”?
Both men could be honored in a manner that both sides would be happy.
