Hello! This is Mrs. RetroSimba posting today! (You can call me Diane.)
A couple of weeks ago, my husband was fortunate enough to meet and interview Dick Musial — son of Cardinals great Stan Musial. It was a great thrill for Mr. RetroSimba, as Stan the Man was his first sports hero and the figure that made him the baseball and St. Louis Cardinals fan he still is today.
Mr. RetroSimba (you can call him Mark) has been tied up with business and family obligations since then, so I’m barging in and posting this for him.
Mark wrote an article about Dick and his famous father that was published in the local newspaper on Feb. 14. Dick Musial has lived at least part time in this area of Florida known as the Treasure Coast for many years, so the connection was a natural.
The article was published in editions of Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers (The Stuart News, Vero Beach Press Journal and others) just before Dick Musial and the family were going to the Medal of Freedom ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Also, here is the follow-up story, written by Bill Straub, a reporter from Scripps Howard News Service in Washington: Stan Musial: One more big day.
I hope you enjoy Mark’s story — it was such a thrill for him. And I also want to let you know that RetroSimba might be a little quiet for a couple of weeks, as we have family visitors escaping the snow and staying with us in sunny Florida. However, Mark will be going to his first spring training game of the season on Monday — Cardinals and Marlins — so I’m sure that will spur a post or two!
